Arabica beans were first introduced to Costa Rica in the 1700s. Today coffee is an important part of the country's economy. To help ensure the future of coffee, the mission of Hacienda Alsacia is clear: Create best practices to make growing coffee more profitable for small-scale farms; develop the next generation of disease-resistant, high-quality coffee; and share information and resources freely with farmers around the world.

Hacienda Alsacia is located on the slopes of Poás Volcano, less than one hour away from Costa Rica’s capital, San Jose. The scenic 240-hectare coffee farm has become Starbucks global agronomy headquarters.
